Corporate social responsibility in modern society

According to Professor A .Carroll (Georgia University) corporate social responsibility in modern society is divided into economy responsibility, legal responsibility, ethical responsibility, and philanthropic responsibility.

Ethical responsibility

  • Responsibility to comply with socially accepted ethical standards, if not legally enforced.

Economy responsibility

  • Responsibility for maintaining the continuity of the business through profit generation.

Legal responsibility

  • Responsibility to run a business in compliance with the laws.

Philanthropic responsibility

  • Responsibility to contribute to society, even if not directly related to managerment activities.
In terms of the above concept, ethical management is "a business that actively and subjectively takes compliance with business ethics as a principle and recognizes the business's economic and legal responsibilities as well as the socially accepted ethical responsibilities as a business's duty. " It means to consider the ethical aspect first when there is a conflict between corporate or individual profit-seeking activities and business ethics.
