Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power Co., Ltd. operates nuclear power plant as a base-load power plant and hydro power plant as a peak-load power plant.
It supplies approximately 32.1% of nationwide electric power in demand as the world’s 5th largest nuclear power generation company that started its operation in 1978 with initial operation of the first reactor of Kori nuclear power plant and to run 21 reactors to date. It made a remarkable achievement, recording 90.7% in annual throughput for 11 years in a row since 2000, which stands above the global average throughput of nuclear power plants. Total power generation capacity coming from 21 nuclear facilities (18,716mW, 77.9%), 21 hydro facilities (592mW, 2.5%) and 16 pump-up facilities (4,700MW, 19.6%) is 24,021MW as of Dec. 2011. Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power is building additional seven nuclear facilities with a total power capacity of 8,600MW (Shin Kori 2, Shin Kori 3, 4, Shin Wolsong 1,2, Shin Ulchin 1,2) as part of the long-term electric power supply plan.
